Birds of Fountain Creek and Bear Creek Nature Centers

We often go birding in two of El Paso county's nature centers when we get a free weekend.  Both nature centers are friendly with helpful staff and volunteers and full of interesting displays.  We have been going to both since we moved here in 2002 and will keep on visiting and helping both nature centers as long as we can.  Each has it's own special areas and bird species and the best way to see them is on one of the nature center bird counts held throughout the year or on an Aiken Audubon bird hike.  Below are some of the lovely birds we regularly see there.
Western Tanager
American Wigeon
Common Yellowthroat
Western Meadowlark
Great Blue Heron
American White Pelican (male with breeding plate)
Lesser Goldfinch
Red-winged Blackbird
Killdear
Porcupine
Yellow Warbler
Swainson's Hawk
Wood Duck
Song Sparrow
Great Horned Owl
Hooded Merganser
Cooper's Hawk
Cedar Waxwing

Greater White-fronted Goose

Virginia Rail by Risë Foster-Bruder
